Charlotte was founded in the mid-18th century at the intersection of two Native American trading paths, one of which ran north-south Great Wagon Road, followed closely today by U.S. Route 21, and a second that ran east-west along what is now modern-day Trade Street.

You won't even need a carry bag or a handful of tees. At Oakhurst, golf is played 1884-style, with gutta-percha balls and four hickory-shafted relics that look more like cudgels than clubs.

Air & Space Museum

The Smithonian's aeronautical collection began in 1876 when a group of kites was acquired from the Chinese Imperial Commission. Aeronautical artifacts were displayed in the Smithsonian's Arts and Industries Building and later in a nearby shed.

Engineering marvel or colossal eyesore?

The horseshoe-shaped glass walkway juts out 70 feet beyond the canyon's edge on the Hualapai Indian Reservation just west of Grand Canyon Village. Buttressed by 1 million pounds of steel and supporting 90 tons of tempered glass, the see-through deck give visitors a breathtaking view of the canyon.
